Fazel Ahmed Manawi

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fazal Ahmad Manawi was the Deputy Chief Justice in the Supreme Court of Afghanistan till April 2004 and he proudly contributed to the consolidation of democracy and restoring the broken Judicial System in the Post-Taliban Era. Latter on he worked as a Commissioner in the Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan and also as its Chief till 2012. Not surprisingly, he is known as a significant judge and lawyer in the country. During his duties in the capacity of Deputy Chief Justice and latter on as the Head of Election Commission, his two significant initial duties, he became one of the most quoted official and the one who could successfully have the mob psychology in his favour. However, due to Hamid Karzai's government interference to the 2009 Parliamentary Election which considered unfair by President and his Pashtun colleagues as Hazara's got more seats as compare to the Pashtun from the Pashtun-dominated regions and provinces, particularly Ghazn, there was a lot of hue and cries, but he was the only strong rule-model who could stand against the illegitimate postulates of the President and his Government. Notwithstanding President used his all centralised power to change the election outcome at least in Ghazni, but ultimately he gave up and Manawi got all his authority again, and by a little change in the outcome which had been changed by Complain Election Commission he could wind up the most controversial election. It was expected that in the 2014 Presidential Election he would remain impartial and not joining any camp, but he allegedly rely on supporting Abdullah Abdulla's camp. Presently, he is not holding any office in the National-Unity Government.
